Print is Not Dead

Six years ago when I was contemplating putting together a lifestyle magazine for the St. Charles County Community and beyond, people warned me that print was dying. I said and still say, “Rubbish!” The print medium has its place. As I was watching the 90th birthday celebration for Betty White the other night, one of the roasters for White held up a newspaper and quipped, “For those of you who don’t know what this is, it’s a newspaper.” The roaster was attempting to poke fun at the continuing trend of digital media and the public’s tendency to seek all things techy. And although the audience got a tickle out of it, Betty White remembered. The Golden Girl extraordinaire even called Facebook a waste of time when she discovered it some years ago.

There is something to be said for being tactile. Many of us still like to hold the things we read in our hands. We like to set them down on our end tables and cuddle up with them in our easy chairs. How many of us have gone to an electronic medium for our news only to find ourselves sending an interesting article to the printer to save for later or to read lying comfortably on the sofa?

Many times just to read an article in electronic form, you are required to submit your email or sign up for something else you aren’t interested in. You end up giving up a portion of your privacy just to read a story that in the past would have been in the local paper.

Streetscape Magazine is a beautiful, coffee table quality, full-color publication packed full of intriguing articles featuring local heroes, fun events and the latest in fashion, beauty, health and wellness trends.

By the way for those of you who are completely baffled by this post, we are available online 24/7 with all issues past and current at www.streetscape.com. Chances are, however, some of the articles are so good you will want to print them out for safe-keeping.

Streetscape Magazine Announces Team For St. Charles Fashion Week 2012

The event draws more than 400 people each night. It features themed runway shows, shopping and great food and drinks. Each night benefits a local charity and draws A-Listers that include athletes, entertainers, media personalities and more.

StreetScape Magazine Publisher Tom Hannegan is thrilled to announce the new team for the 2012 Greater St. Charles Fashion Week. The 4-day glam event draws more than 400 people each night. It features themed runway shows, boutique-style shopping and great food and drinks. Each night benefits a metro area charity and draws A-Listers that include professional athletes, entertainers, media personalities and many more.

Xanadu Public Relations Consultant and Event Planner Leneia Weston is taking the lead as Event Director for Fashion Week 2012. “We are honored to have the opportunity to spearhead this St. Charles tradition, and we’ll bring a new level of creativity and inspiration to the equation,” said Leneia.

Leneia joins the Greater St. Charles / Streetscape Magazine Fashion Week with a zealous passion for event production. Prior to joining Xanadu in July 2011, Leneia was the Crowne Meetings Director at the Crowne Plaza in Clayton and worked as Senior Convention Services Manager at The Hilton Frontenac.

After taking a year off, Independent Designer Kristy Lee, also an adjunct professor at Lindenwood University returns to St. Charles Fashion Week as Runway Coordinator. Kristy teaches Fashion Show Production and oversees the students’ annual fashion shows. She has also coordinated shows for a number of businesses and organizations, including the Lou Brock Annual Golf Classic and Fashion Show.

Former St. Charles Convention Center Assistant Director Donna Costellia will once again serve as the Vendor Table Coordinator. More than 70 vendors participated in St. Charles Fashion Week 2011.

For the past two years, StreetScape Magazine Publisher Tom Hannegan turned to Cillah Hall, owner of Xanadu Public Relations, to orchestrate all publicity efforts for the 4-day event. Judging by the media interviews, social media buzz, celebrity appearances and huge turnout, Xanadu Public Relations definitely delivered.

If you’re interested in participating in the 2012 Greater St. Charles Fashion Week, contact Leneia at lweston@xanadupr.com.. Designers will need to submit a portfolio of their work. Sponsorships and vendor tables are also available.

Publisher’s Blog; Tom Hannegan

Ok, I had to blog about this because it’s really cool! When Wendy Williams came to the St. Louis area last month during her ‘Say It Like You Mean It Summer Tour’, dozens flocked to Chesterfield Mall to see her and of course I was one of them because I LOVE her. I took her a gift; Elmo!!! Well, did you see the Wendy Williams Show on Monday?? She had my Elmo on the table among a few other items, and said it was one of her favorite things from her nationwide tour. Is that cool or what?!

So why did I pick Elmo? Well, I saw a framed photo of Elmo in Wendy’s tour bus on Fox 2. So I thought it would be a perfect gift. And I am thrilled that she loves it!!!

Llywelyn’s Pub is anything but your typical local corner bar. It is an upscale pub with an eclectic blend of American and Celtic fusion. From beer and spirits to a remarkable menu with an

array of pub favorites and live music to game rooms and nightly specials, this new local favorite is sure to gratify any Main Street visitor. It’s a perfect spot to watch the game, meet friends for happy hour, or sit down with the family for dinner.

Belly on up to the bar, which has at least thirty different beers ON TAP! Add to that the extensive list of bottled beers from St. Louis to Ireland and even the most discerning of beer drinkers is sure to find a favorite. You won’t go thirsty, though, if beer isn’t your thing… Llywelyn’s has a large selection of spirits, including scotches, Irish whiskeys, and many more.

Once you have decided on what to drink, the food menu will delight you, all the same. The Culinary Director, Chris Whealen, is constantly updating the menu to keep it current and fresh. He said that he makes the changes based on what their customers like. What is everyone’s favorite? The pepper cheese sauce. Customers are always asking for the recipe for the delicious sauce, but Whealen says, “Nobody will ever get it.”

Whether you are craving Celtic favorites like Welsh Potato Chips, Shepherd’s Pie, Bangers and Mashed, or you’re in the mood for a typical American favorite like an Adult Grilled Cheese or Burgers and Fries, the menu will not disappoint. One of the most popular menu items is The Famous Steak & Cheese sandwich (with that cheese sauce you’ll never get the recipe for) and complement that with a side of Llywelyn’s Famous Chips and you have a perfect Pub meal.

The bartenders, servers, and chefs aren’t the only ones that are busy at Llywelyn’s. Behind the scenes, Sandie Hackbarth is actively lining up live music acts, planning for specials at all six of the Llywelyn’s locations, coordinating new promotions, and more recently, scoring the title of the Official Pub of the St. Louis Rams for Llywelyn’s. This Marketing and Community Relations Star is constantly on the go and when asked how she juggles it all, she responded, “for the love of the pub.”

There is love all week, too. For example, Tuesdays are busy with $5 Flatbread Night from 6-9pm and Open Mic Night with David Cattani from 10pm – 1am. It’s also College Night at Llywelyn’s on

Tuesday nights, so bring your valid college ID and get 20% off from 8pm to close. Thursdays are Irish nights with unbeatable deals on Guinness ($3). The weekends are jam-packed with live local bands and artists. You can always expect something fun at Llywelyn’s Pub. (You can find all of the specials online at www.llywelynspub.com.)

Speaking of which, Llywelyn’s Trolley can take you to the fun, too! You can catch a trolley from Llywelyn’s to a Cardinals or Rams game for free. Renting the trolley is fun and easy for transportation to any special event or even pub crawls. Get trolley schedules and information on their website. (http://www.llywelynspub.com/ trolley.htm)

But you don’t have to leave the pub to have fun. If you aren’t one for sitting still at the bar, there are always games at each location. At the Llywelyn’s on Main Street in Historic St. Charles, there is even a game room with an arcade area for every age to enjoy. Other locations, depending on size and availability, have varying degrees of games. For example, the Winghaven location has GoldenTee for the indoor golfers out there. There are also plenty of large TVs throughout the bar and dining areas to watch the Big Game, whether you prefer football or “football” (aka soccer). Cheer on your favorite team at Llywelyn’s Pub.

Have you been looking for a place to host your next gathering or celebration? What better atmosphere than Llywelyn’s Pub. Allof the Llywelyn’s six locations can hold banquets. Whether you have 40 to 150 guests, Llywelyn’s Pub can take care of your event. If you aren’t near the St. Charles Main Street location, any of the other five locations are sure to be close by – in Missouri — Winghaven/O’Fallon, Central West End, Soulard, Historic Webster Groves, and Overland Park in Kansas.

“Stop in at Llywelyn’s for a drink, stay for a meal, and enjoy a game, all while earning great rewards.”

Not only can you get great food and drinks in a fun environment at Llywelyn’s, but you can earn rewards through Llywelyn’s VIP Program. That’s right, you can earn Llywelyn’s Dollars for just enjoying yourself at the Pub. When you join the Llywelyn’s VIP Program, you receive discounts, promotions, and specials. Kids can eat free on Tuesdays, you get birthday specials, and also receive weekly email promotions for food or live music, just to name a few of the benefits. It’s a win-win situation.

Stop in at Llywelyn’s for a drink, stay for a meal, and enjoy a game, all while earning great rewards. You’ll find the perfect spot to taste a great selection of beers, dine on delectable Celtic cuisine, play or watch a game, and just have a great time.
